Places to see/visit

If you want to experience/see things – places etc., there is plenty to do, hiking in the countryside – the mountains, picking berries or your own extensive oregano. Or a hike in the rivers, the Acheloos is the second largest river in Greece, you can take a svim in the fresh water of the river, or if you like fishing and have a rod it is possible to catch trout, whitefish, catfish.

There are several old stone bridges in the area, ask us where they are and how you can easily get to them and experience them. 
We, your hosts, will be happy to help you find challenging and great places to visit. If we have the opportunity, we can guide you as well.

The village has several churches, the largest one is located in the center of Kali Komi and is beautifully decorated.
If you want to take a day trip by car, we have selected a few suggestions for you, (it is 2-4 hours to these attractions), but there is much more to experience within the same radius. Visit our neighboring villages, Ellinika and Petrotou, Anthiro

Ellnika

Ellnika is the nearest village. Ellnika is about 400 meters higher than Kali Komi.

They have a beautiful church and a café. It is worth a visit here.

Mouzaki

Mouzaki is the nearest town, 65 km from the hotel. Here you will find shops with most goods, cafes, and restaurants. Medical center and bus station.

Meteora

Meteora is a rock formation in the regional unit of Trikala, in Thessaly, in northwestern Greece, hosting one of the most prominent complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, viewed locally as second in importance only to Mount Athos.

Twenty-four monasteries were established atop the giant natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area, mainly from the second half of the 14th century under the local rule of Simeon Uroš.  Six of these are still active and open to visitors: the monasteries of Great Meteoron (est. 1356), Varlaam, Saint Nicholas Anapausas, Rousanou, Holy Trinity, and Saint Stephen. The latter became a community of nuns in 1961, whereas the former five remain managed by monks.

Meteora is located in between the town of Kalabaka and the village of Kastraki at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains.[5] The Meteora complex was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 because of its outstanding architecture and beauty, combined with religious and cultural significance.[6] The name means “lofty”, “elevated”, and is etymologically related to met. 

Petroto

Our neighboring village to the south, which you pass on your way to the hotel. Here lies the Sykia dam, which the government started in 1990; the plan was to close the Acheloos river, just below Petroto, to create an artificial lake with 600 million m³ of water. There has been significant opposition from environmental activists. This project is currently frozen due to the economic situation.

Trikala

Trikala is a city in northwestern Thessaly, Greece, and the capital of the Trikala region. The city is located along the Lithaios River, which is a tributary of Pineios. Trikala is a lively Greek city with picturesque monuments and old neighborhoods featuring traditional architecture. The city is located near Meteora and also close to the mountain range of southern Pindus, where there are many destinations (e.g., Pyli’s stone bridge, Elati, Pertouli, Palaiokarya’s stone bridge and waterfall, Pertouli Ski Center, etc.).

Pyli

Pyli is a municipality in the Trikala region of Greece. It is located 18 km west of Trikala, right at the foot of the Itamos and Koziakas mountains, which mark the beginning of the Pindos mountain range. Pyli marks the entrance to a large gorge and the natural path leading to the city of Arta. The Portaikos River, a tributary of the Pineios River, flows through this area. Many seek here when the temperature rises as there are many cozy cafes, and it is cool along the river. Pyli has always been the most important trading center for the surrounding settlements.

Anthiro

Anthiro  a mountain village in the western part of the Karditsa regional unitGreece. Anthiro is the seat of the municipality of Argithea. Anthiro is located 20 km southwest of Mouzaki, 40 km west of Karditsa, and 19 km southwest of Pyli.

Its residents are based in agriculture which includes honey production. There is a museum in the village. Near the village are the Korakos bridge, built in the 12th century, and the Kleftovrysi and Stavro bridges.

Nicopolis

Nicopolis ‘City of Victory’ or Actia Nicopolis was the capital city of the Roman province of Epirus Vetus. It is located near PrevezaGreece. The city was founded in 29 BC by Octavian in commemoration of his victory in 31 BC over Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium nearby.

Many impressive ruins of the ancient city may be visited today.

Preveza

Preveza is a city in the region of Epirus, northwestern Greece, located on the northern peninsula of the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf. It is the capital of the regional unit of Preveza, which is the southern part of the region of Epirus. The ruins of the ancient city of Nicopolis lie 7 kilometres (4 miles) north of Preveza.
